Late Edition because today was a whirlwind!
Saturday, I volunteered at a Food Rescue US South FL Farmer’s Market at Village Freedge in Liberty City. It was hot and humid and we wished we’d had more food for those in need but all the donating organizations are stretched thin and having to split their donations between more receiving pantries. The situation is dire. But we were able to provide everyone there that morning with something to go home with.
Sunday, I can’t believe I’m typing this, it is NOT a typo, I stayed home and watched the Miami Dolphins beat the Buffalo Bills! While I watched in amazement, and cheering by myself like a lunatic, I also made around peanut butter & jelly sandwiches that I delivered to a community fridge in Little Haiti on Monday.
On Monday night, I was so happy to arrive at Panera Bread in Aventura for my weekly food rescue run and see Jasmine working there again. I got chummy with her over the year or so when I saw her on my Monday night runs, always striking up a conversation as she packed up the food for me to take to Miami Rescue Mission’s The Caring Place. She took a break to go to nursing school and work in home healthcare and decided to return before she makes a move out of Florida early next year. I know she’s reading this so I’ll say, I’m gonna miss you Jasmine but I look forward to seeing you next Monday until you make your move.
Soup at Thai Thai
Thursday was another lovely parent support group meeting, this time with a potluck lunch, at the Sandra DeLucca Developmental Center where Nick is an attendee. Those monthly get togethers are so welcome and so necessary. Afterwards I went home, packed up the car, and drove to Merritt Island, stopping at a Publix for a much-needed snack of popcorn chicken (I only nibbled stuff at the potluck which was around 11 a.m. so by 5:30 I was hungry) then once I got to the townhouse, Vance and I had a light dinner at Thai Thai in Cape Canaveral. The soup was super comforting and yummy on a cool night.
Nick going up to bat today.
Phil and Nick after the game.
Today, as I mentioned at the top of this post, was crazy busy but so much fun! Vance and I drove to Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex to watch Nick and his softball teammates compete in the Special Olympics Fall Classic. Elizabeth drove over from Orlando watch and so did Nick’s godfather Phil. Sadly, they lost but it was nice to go cheer them on.

Cool hot air balloon at Disney Springs and what a gorgeous day!
Afterwards, Vance, Elizabeth and I spent the rest of the afternoon at Disney Springs starting with a late lunch at Terralina Crafted Italian where we shared a few appetizers and an entree then it was time for a stop at Ganachery for a single little dark chocolate square and the M&M store where I picked up a bag of Peanut Butter M&M’s. We all shared those while watching the Bruce Springsteen biopic “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere” at the Disney Springs AMC Theatre. I enjoyed it and recommend it but must warn you that it is a very quiet, introspective and deep movie. I liked it a lot. Finally, on our way to the parking lot, we did stop at Joffrey’s for hot chocolates and a coffee for Vance. Alright, now that I read this, that was A LOT of chocolate we had today.
I’m already making plans for next week. I’ll be visiting CAMP Gallery just a few blocks from my house on Tuesday and Homework Gallery in Little River on Wednesday. Both have cool exhibitions up right now and I don’t want to miss them. Click on the links to catch a glimpse of the shows at each one. I’m also excited to have already received my VIP Pass to the Untitled Art Fair during Art Basel, thanks to Ybett from Emerson-Dorsch for putting me on that list. I’ll be attending that on Dec. 2nd.
I also already RSVP’d to the Miami Book Fair talk by the dynamic and hilarious duo, our local darlings, authors Carl Hiaasen and Dave Barry. That’s going to be a memorable afternoon with those two on stage together. I can’t wait!
Lastly, here’s a link to an article I wrote for Artburst Miami that was just published today about a great program created by a young lady who is quite the dynamo. I hope you enjoy reading it and are as inspired by it as I was to write it.
THINGS TO DO:
Take a leisurely walk through South Beach led by local artist Beatriz Monteavaro, as she celebrates the release of her Exile Books published Zine “Recharge & Destress, “ and shows you her favorite spots on this fun tour. Click here to RSVP for this Sunday afternoon tour.
If you like classical music, catch a free Wallcast Concert by the New World Symphony at Miami Beach’s Soundscape Park on Saturday night. Click here for details.
That should do it for this week. Below are some parting shots. I’ll see you next Friday, hopefully with an earlier edition!
