Getaway, yoga, Hamilton and more!

Janet, Michael and Elizabeth at Mario’s Sports Bar where we stopped for a late dinner and listened to some funky karaoke!

Us at Lover’s Key State Park.

I love short, easy weekend trips and the one last weekend was made even more special because we got to visit Michael and his girlfriend Janet in Bonita Springs. Michael was there training with his new job with Ruths’ Chris Steakhouse. It was great seeing them. We went out to dinner, went to the beach at Lover’s Key State Park and visited Flamingo Island Flea Market where I picked up a great pair of earrings.

Jimmy Butler with his wacky hairdo, in mid-throw.

When we got back to Miami on Sunday, and after a quick nap to get refreshed, we headed to the Arena to watch the Miami Heat take on the Washington Wizards. Although it was a heartbreaking at the buzzer lost, it was a fun cap off to the weekend. Of course, when I got home I watched the Academy Awards which I’d recorded. Mind you, Monday morning I was toast, exhausted!

Wednesday we took second place at trivia at Old Tom’s Cafe and we even surprised ourselves with that placement! Then on Thursday, I went to the support group meeting at Nick’s program and had honest, loving, caring conversation with all the other Moms. It was a wonderful couple of hours spent sharing stories, laughing and even crying a little. Truly supporting each other on our journey as special moms.

Loved visiting Miranda after she’d finished teaching her yoga class poolside at the Selina Gold Dust.

After that, I rushed over to the Selina Gold Dust Motel in MiMo where my great niece Miranda (my nephew Manoli’s daughter) was teaching a yoga class poolside. It was so great to see her in action, doing what she loves. I loved stopping by and showing my support. This is a new journey for her and it was so wonderful to see her glowing after the session. Here’s a link to her various yoga classes around Miami and to MYP Athletes providing classes for athletes as well as an initiative called the Togetherness Project. She’s involved with all of those!

And last night, I got to see Hamilton at the Arsht Center and it’s as amazing as I remembered! I saw it at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts years ago with Elizabeth. Last night I invited Patty, my nephew Manoli’s wife to come along and she loved it! It was media night so it was extra fun running into lots of familiar faces from my arts and journalism world.

Rosa smiling proudly next to her adorable doll display as part of the 3D art display at the North Miami Beach Library.

Then today I went to lunch with an artist friend Rosa Henriquez. One of Rosa’s sons was in my first communion Sunday school class many, many moons ago (small world). Well, Rosa now works at the City of North Miami City Hall which is just blocks from my house and she’s also an artist, something I just recently discovered when she followed me on Instagram. It was such an awesome revelation that I’m going to be profiling her for Biscayne Times in their May issue. Our lunch today was an interview/catch up session. She’s doing beautiful work as an artist and getting some fantastic opportunities. I can’t wait to tell her story. She’s on Instagram at Cocoartwatercolors, check out her work.

Finally, today my brother Mario arrives to stay with us because tomorrow the family is gathering to celebrate Joaquin’s Baptism (Joaquin is my niece Elena’s son). I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone.

Then just published today on the Artburst Miami blog, my article on the fantastic Arts for Learning paid summer internship opportunities for high schoolers. Click here to read all about it. Plus, I encourage to read my Artburst Blog Editor’s article on the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibit in Downtown Miami. Jean did a fantastic job on it!

That’s all for today, see you next week in your inbox!
