Happy Spring!

Today is officially the first day of Spring so happy Springing! I have enjoyed seeing bright green leaves return to a few of our trees here at home, there are two that drop all their leaves every single year. And I must say, I’ve enjoyed the cooler weather we’ve gotten this week too, which was unfortunately accompanied by rain and gray skies.

But enough about the weather. Let’s kick things off this week with…

Friday, when on my way home from running errands I once again saw the adorable sheep that lives just a few blocks from our house. I snapped the pic of it above.

Loved seeing Brook on Saturday night.

On Saturday, after lots of work around the house, a quick run to Target and to Cold Stone Creamery to grab ice cream, our friend Brook called out of the blue to ask Vance and I to dinner. He was in town from Asheville, NC where he and his wife Tyler now run Emerson Dorsch Artist Residency (EDAR), just for the night so we picked him up at his former gallery Emerson Dorsch in Little Haiti and we grabbed dinner at a cool little German spot just a few blocks away, Cuckoo Clock Brauhaus. We had a few beers, some great German food and reminisced about old times and caught up on everything else. Afterwards, we stopped by his artist friend David Marsh’s studio in Wynwood.

Then on a rainy Sunday afternoon, Monica and I went to Bridge Red Studios for the opening of “Pablo Cano: Streams of Consciousness,” a beautifully curated show featuring a large selection of his marionettes, drawings and more. It was great to speak to Pablo and let him know what a big fan I’ve been since I first discovered his work at MOCA back in the late 90s. Monica ended up purchasing one of his beautiful drawings. It was a great afternoon, the show is up until April 29.

Mari and I before the show.

The gorgeous set for Moulin Rouge as it looked before the houselights went down and the curtain went up!

The full cast out on stage taking their final bows.

Tuesday night was opening night of the Broadway musical “Moulin Rouge” at the Adrienne Arsht Center, which I attended with my sister Mari. These productions, which are part of Broadway in Miami, are stellar if even a bit formulaic. Seems like nowadays, so many Broadway musicals are a reimagining of a classic with plenty of contemporary hits thrown in to keep audiences attending. That still didn’t take away from the top-notch sets, choreography, music and costumes, this show in particular was awash in jewel tones and a bit of raunchiness (befitting of the storyline of course). Both Mari and I loved it and we also enjoyed the pre-show wine tasting and festivities held in the Arsht Center’s smaller black box theater. The show runs through this weekend and they do have discounted tickets with code PARISVIP.

Horse at Enchanted Forest Park

Thursday, after dropping off my car for an oil change, I spent some time walking through two of my favorite parks in North Miami… Arch Creek Park & Nature Center and Enchanted Forest Elaine Gordon Park. I walked through Arch Creek’s vast nature trail, discovering areas I’d never walked through before and admiring the view of the creek and at Enchanted Forest I walked my usual route through the entire park, stopping at the bridge to see a little turtle swimming in the water, at the horse stables to snap a pic of a gorgeous horse and at the butterfly garden. It was a lovely way to spend the morning and by the time I returned to the mechanic, my car was ready!

Today, Vance and I are dropping Nick off at his Special Olympics Opening Ceremonies at Doral Legacy Park, and while he’s enjoying the festivities, we’ll be grabbing dinner somewhere in Doral. We’ll return to that park on Saturday to watch him compete in basketball and afterwards, we’re headed to Casa Wutzler in South Miami for an afternoon barbecue. Can’t wait to see Michelle & Kevin, it’s been way too long.

That’s all for this week and below you’ll find my suggestions of things to do around town this weekend and beyond. Have a pleasant weekend and a good week and I’ll be back on Friday with more stories to tell.
