Hello May!
Here we are again, another Friday, another blog and today is the first May blog!
Last weekend was a whirlwind where my daughter Elizabeth was in town for just a blip (she got here late Friday night and left early Sunday morning!) don’t think she was even here 36 hours.
Elizabeth, Nick, Vance and I at Surfside beach, 95 St. and Collins to be exact.
Me and the kiddos at Surfside beach
Perfect beach day, the seaweed did not deter us, the water was refreshingly cool and clean of seaweed the further you went out.
We did however, manage to spend time with her on Saturday, with a great beach day at Surfside followed by burgers at Burgers ‘n Shakes in North Beach near the Miami Beach Bandshell. Their food is so good and so reasonable. There’s one opening up just blocks from our house, the signage is there but nothing’s happened yet. They also have a Hollywood location.
Then just like that, Sunday morning rolled around and I was driving Elizabeth to the Amtrak station at 6 a.m.!
Sunday afternoon I went back to North Beach, right down the street from where I’d been on Saturday and enjoyed time with my fellow Food Rescue volunteers at our annual volunteer appreciation party. It was at Taquiza Tacos on 74th St. and Oceanfront Terr. where we laughed, ate great food, drank cold beers and margaritas and enjoyed each other’s company. It was pretty crowded because Taquiza was also celebrating their 12th Anniversary. The place is good, I mean it’s recognized by the prestigious Michelin restaurant rankings.
Public art installation on the MOCA Plaza in North Miami.
That’s about all the activity for this week. I took several really great walks this week, opting to walk to run my errands rather than drive. Just this morning I took a walk to the dry cleaners and snapped the above shot of the lovely MOCA Plaza on my way home. They’ve got a cool public art installation Joan Jiménez “Entes”: Bailando Nuestros Problemas a series of cut iron sculptures by the Peruvian artist. Click here to read about the installation and what inspired the artist.
And here are a few random photos…

More public art in North Miami, this one on an electric box.

Pudding in a cloud, a popular dessert in the 80s that my Mom used to make all the time.
And so far, we’ve got a pretty full weekend planned. Tonight, Vance and I are gonna check out The Leinster Irish Pub in Downtown Miami then tomorrow he and I and Nick are going to the Marlins game and finally Sunday we’re going to PrintFest ‘26 at The Wolfsonian-FIU on Miami Beach. We had such a great time there last year I’m excited to return.
And speaking of the Marlins, there are some great deals throughout the week and the season for families and kids and special food and beverage bundles. Click here to read about them.
Then click here to find fun free and cheap things to do around South Florida. You’ll find plenty of F1 Race events in here, as well as great deals on Museums and Attractions around Miami and a lot more!
That’s it for this week, I’ll be back with more next Friday.
