Pushing through

I had to do that this week, push through and get an article done that I’d been not necessarily avoiding but well OK avoiding. No idea why, it was wonderful when I finished it and it was one that came easily to me. I felt proud when I finished it and am hoping my Editor likes it.

Cute orange apron given to Food Rescue US South FL volunteers by the Area Director Ellen Bowen.

Saturday I spent the morning helping out Food Rescue US South FL with one of their regular Farmer’s Market/Food Distribution events. This one was at Theodore Gibson Park in Overtown. I helped unload boxes, setup food stations and replenish items. It was amazing how much was distributed. Nearly 350 families went home with fresh food that would’ve otherwise ended up in a landfill. NO FOOD WASTED. And the South FL Director Ellen Bowen who is at every event, gave all the volunteers a cute orange apron. It was a great way to spend Saturday morning.

After that, I headed to Flanigan’s in Coconut Grove to meet Vance, Nicholas and Ashley for lunch. I ordered their delicious chicken wings and brought some home which I enjoyed later that day. That night I was glued to the television watching the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Surfside beach view on Sunday.

Sunday was relatively quiet. Hung around the house and went for a nice walk along the beach with Vance. It was a gorgeous day and so we took advantage to enjoy the nice ocean breeze.

Tuesday Nick and I picked up my sister Maria and Nick’s girlfriend Ashley and headed to Coral Gables for the Best Buddies Friendship Walk kick-off party at Bay 13 Brewery & Kitchen. My sister Ana who works in Coral Gables met us there. It was a fun evening chatting and enjoying bites the restaurant offered. Looking forward to the walk on April 6 at LoanDepot Park. Wednesday I ran into one of the MAMP Lab attendees from a few weeks ago who was at the table I moderated. I saw her while doing weekly food rescue at Trader Joe’s in Coral Gables and she excitedly told me she got cast in an independent film. That was so great to hear. I also brought a box of goodies from Versailles to the volunteers at Village Freedge when I brought them the Trader Joe’s donation. They were very appreciative of the snacks.

Chris Friday’s “Narcissist,” public art at MOCA as part of their Art on the Plaza series.

The obligatory selfie with George Neary. Here we are bumping into each other at Cafe Creme in North Miami.

On Wednesday I also went to MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) in North Miami to take pictures of their shop for my article. After, I walked across the plaza to Cafe Creme to grab lunch and ran into my buddy George Neary who was there too, having lunch with friends. I had a delicious chicken, pesto, mushroom sandwich at Cafe Creme.

Thursday with all my museum shop photos complete I finally buckled down and submitted my article.

Then tonight, I’m looking forward to another presentation by the always creative Juggerknot Theatre Company. It’s called “Conjuring the King” a crazy immersive play about an Elvis Fan Club member. I’ll tell you how it was next week and if you want to read about it click here to read the preview on Artburst Miami.

Tomorrow Nick has a big Special Olympics basketball competition at Doral Legacy Park in the morning and at night we’re going to the Miami Heat game with our friends Shawn and Suzanne from Baltimore. Suzanne is a crazy marathoner and they’re both running the Miami Half Marathon on Sunday.

Then finally on Sunday we’re going to the Carnaval on the Mile festival in Coral Gables. Meeting Kevin and Michelle there and my best friend Monica is joining us, it should be fun. Click here for info on the event in case you want to attend.

I’ll be back next week with much more. Really looking forward to attending the Miami Film Festival unveiling party in Coconut Grove on Monday night. I’ll tell you all about that next week too.

Until then… be well and have a great weekend and week!
