Beach, Benihana, overdue outing

I hadn’t seen my best friend Monica since early December when she and I did our annual jaunt to Art Basel Miami Beach. That’s why this week we had a long overdue outing.

But before that…

Front to back… me, Adina, Lindsey (Phil’s daughter), the birthday girl Margaret and Michelle.

L-R… Jake (Kevin & Michelle’s son), Vance, Nick, Phil, Kevin (in khaki shorts) and Rick (Adina’s husband)

The gorgeous beach view from the Hollywood townhouse where we celebrated Margaret’s 60th.

Vance, Nicholas and I went up to Hollywood Beach to celebrate Margaret’s 60th birthday. Margaret is Phil’s wife… Phil has been Vance’s friend since high school and Phil is also Nick’s godfather. Phil rented a lovely townhouse right on the beach and we had a splendid time with great friends celebrating. The Italian food he ordered was delicious, the laughs were plenty, the great conversations while watching the sunset on the beach were memorable and of course, plans were made to get together again soon. It was a lovely Saturday afternoon.

The whole gang celebrating birthday girl Tiffany’s 40th. Tiffany is front and center in the yellow dress next to me! She makes me look good LOL

On Sunday, we celebrated my niece Tiffany’s 40th birthday at Benihana in Coral Gables. It was a really fun afternoon eating great food and enjoying the company of family. Mazen, my niece Nicole’s son who sat next to me, kept me entertained the entire time.

Tuesday night I attended a very interesting art talk moderated by the incomparable Rosie Gordon-Wallace, one of Miami’s busiest arts leaders, at the Oolite Arts satellite space in Little River. I also got to meet filmmaker and Miami Dade College film professor Karen McKinnon that night. Karen, who was the subject of one of my recent articles, invited me to the talk and it was great to meet her.

Then finally yesterday, I met Monica for lunch for our very long overdue outing. We exchanged Christmas presents and she also brought me a birthday present and treated me to lunch. We went to Pembroke Gardens and ate delicious Mediterranean food at Sirocco Mediterranean Restaurant. We ordered a bunch of appetizers… grape leaves, chicken wings, Lebanese cheese rolls and a delicious lentil soup. For dessert we had the Knefe W Ka’ke a baked semolina over sweet cheese served with a sesame sweet bun and rose water syrup. It was great catching up with her and can’t wait to see her later this month for her birthday.

And here’s a link to my latest Artburst Miami article about an exciting underwater art/artificial reef project along the Miami Beach reefline. Click here to read about the beginning phase of The ReefLine.

Tomorrow night I’m excited to go see the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performance at the Arsht Center with my sister Ana.

That’s all for this week, see you next Friday right here in your inbox!
