Markets, gardens and FanFest

Hi all! I have to say it’s been a great week since I hit your inbox last Saturday (yes, I wrote the post on Friday night and forgot to hit send!)

My veggie burgers with homemade remoulade sauce and a little cilantro garnish.

Saturday I dragged Vance to the Legion Park Farmer’s Market run by Urban Oasis Project, where we bought a bunch of produce, homemade key lime panacotta, microgreens grown by my high school friend Monica Uribe and lots and lots of other goodies. I roasted a ton of the veggies for dinner one night and they were delicious. I love buying local. And I used the mushrooms in the risotto I made another night for dinner.

Me, Michelle & Kevin enjoying some drinks at the Festival of Chocolate.

Sunday we headed to Fairchild Tropical Garden for the annual Festival of Chocolate. We had a great time walking through the gardens, enjoying cocktails and buying lots and lots of chocolate. We attended with Kevin and Michelle and their son Jake and it was really nice to see the tree that’s dedicated to Kevin’s mom Mary and the bench dedicated to Michelle’s aunt.

Monday night, Elizabeth and I went to see the Oscar nominated foreign film “The Zone of Interest” a tough film to watch but incredibly well made. I won’t go into detail here but encourage you to read up on it. The screening was at the Cosford Cinema on the University of Miami Campus and it was free. We were joined by Elizabeth’s best friend Zoe and her parents Chris and Flavia.

Wednesday I snuck away in the afternoon after a very busy day for a meet up with Nick’s former high school teacher Sandra Lindner. It was nice catching up with her at Starbucks over a hot chocolate and a croissant. Looking forward to more outings with her, she’s fun to hang out with.

Cute outdoor patio at Tomato & Basil Restaurant in North Miami.

Thursday I walked over to Tomato & Basil a cute spot in my neighborhood and had a couple of their delicious empanadas on their adorable back patio. Then that night I went to Fountainhead Studios’ monthly Open House to see the works by their latest resident artist. It was at a beautiful home in Morningside and I got to meet a very nice artist who was attending and is a resident artist at Deering Estate. I’m very much looking forward to seeing his work.

Picture’s a bit fuzzy, but that’s Nick in his Marlins jersey and birdman wig on the field after running the bases.

This morning I attended Creative Mornings which featured a very interesting talk by two young architects/graphic designers/photographers/entrepreneurs who make up the team of Vaco Studio a Miami-based Creative Community and Studio. They spoke about their career path and how they carved out their own way by taking chances and pretty much being fearless.

And tonight we went to the Marlins Fan Fest at LoanDepot Park where Nicholas and his girlfriend Ashley graced the big screen a few times. Nicholas even asked a question to the Marlins announcers who were conducting a Q&A. We stayed and watched the fireworks and Nick ran the bases.

And the highlight of my week was seeing my article on the Miami Cancer Institute’s Arts in Medicine program published in Artburst Miami. Writing it was a long process but boy was it worth it. This one really hit home and resonated with so many people which was a true delight. Click the link above to read it.

And here’s a parting shot of the beautiful cotton candy sunset on Thursday afternoon.

That’s all for this week, hope you have a great one and see you right here next Friday!
