Cheers to a long weekend
Ahhhh… the three-day weekend. Labor Day weekend is here and so is September and shorter days. Although the extremely hot weather meteorologists are all reporting, is here to stay, which is unfortunate.
As for what’s happened since last Friday, here goes…
Almost Blue at Luna Star Cafe. They’re the house band at Luna every last Friday of the month, coinciding with Jazz at Moca.
Friday I braved the hot and sticky night and walked a few blocks to listen to Peruvian pianist/keyboardist/singer/songwriter Enrique “Kiki” Sanchez perform at Jazz at Moca. When that was done, I walked across the street and caught a few sets of the blues band Almost Blue at Luna Star Cafe where I enjoyed a Fat Tire beer and grape leaves while listening to them.
Because Saturday was a washout with heavy rain most of the day, Vance and I decided on a movie so we headed to Aventura Mall where we were thoroughly entertained by “Coyote vs. Acme” a live action/animation combo starring Wile E. Coyote of Looney Tunes fame, who hires an attorney to take on the giant Acme Corporation. The film has a deeper message than what you’d expect and I loved it because it took me back to my childhood and all those Saturday mornings and weekday afternoons parked in front of the TV watching Looney Tunes cartoons.
That night, thanks to the weather clearing up, Vance and I went on a long walk through the neighborhood, which was nice after being indoors all day.
Didn’t do much on Sunday except we went and tried some delicious (and expensive) gelato at this new fancy spot Don Pietro Gelato in North Miami Beach’s Eastern Shores neighborhood off NE 163 St. east of Biscayne. It was worth the wait and the price. They’ve been open just a couple of months but judging by the crowds that day, the place is a hit! Thanks to Raquel for giving me the heads up on Instagram!
Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, other than watching a lot of US Open tennis and getting work done, I went for a few long solo walks. Tuesday I walked along the beach boardwalk/trail from Surfside to Bal Harbour Village/Haulover and back. It was hot, sticky and humid but felt great nonetheless, see my pics above. On the way home, I stopped at La Plaza Bakery & Coffee in Sans Souci and picked up a couple of delicious Argentinian empanadas for lunch.
On Wednesday morning I walked through Biscayne Park where I caught a glimpse of the moon against the blue sky, spotted some cute wildlife and stop to admire a bright and lush yellow flowering tree. See the pics I snapped above.

And that’s all for this week. I leave you with a cute picture of my niece Nicole who got her first stripe in Jiu Jitsu. She takes the classes while her son Ramzi attends his class.
Yes, there are a lot of pictures again this week (something my husband Vance pointed out last week!) and I’m hoping you like them.

I’ll be back next Friday but right now, I’m looking forward to our family vacation in Charlotte, NC where we’ll be visiting our son Michael this weekend.
