Farewell August

I have officially crowned myself the crazy bird lady! And my neighbor Matt thinks the self-proclaimed title suits me just fine. I made the proclamation because as you know from reading this blog, or if you follow me on social media, watching and documenting the birds visiting my bird feeders at home (there are three feeders total) has become a bit of an obsession.

Last weekend was a ho hum, boring and very relaxing weekend at home so nothing to report. Actually, Nick and Vance did go to the Dolphins pre-season game where our lime green mohawk wearing son won an autographed football for being the game’s most enthusiastic fan. Here he is, shirtless and beaming with joy, showing off his prize.

Tuesday was one of my favorite days this week, that’s because I got to babysit my great nephew Jojo for a few hours and it was heaven. That boy kept me entertained with his non-stop chattering and cuteness. He read me about five books, clearing his throat at the beginning of each one, as if he were preparing to make a grand speech, and it was adorable. We also built structures with his wooden and magnetic blocks. He was very proficient at creating what he called the “Disney Castle” and the “Hundred-Acre Wood” with those blocks. I know he chose to build those because they are two of his favorite places, the boy is a huge fan of Winnie the Pooh and Disney. Let’s just say it was a truly magical morning and I’d do it again in a heartbeat!
Here we are, the “booth regulars” and second place winners two weeks in a row at Old Tom’s on Wednesday.
Wednesday night, for the second consecutive week, we took second place at trivia! We’ve been going to Old Tom’s every Wednesday for trivia for what I think is like four or five years now. It’s a nice midweek distraction where we sit with the same group of people at our designated booth, people who have become trivia friends.
These are just some of the meals we packed that are being distributed today. We made 300 in total.
Yesterday was another busy day volunteering with Nourish Miami where we prepared hundreds of meals for the homeless. I had planned to attend the Fountainhead Arts Open House last night but was too tired however, I encourage you to check out their website and if you’re so inclined, attend one of their upcoming Open Houses where they introduce their rotating artists in residence. And finally this morning, I took one step outside at around 9 a.m. and talked myself out of a morning walk, it is just too humid and it’s actually raining so I would’ve been sweaty AND soaked. But tonight, if I feel so inclined and don’t talk myself out of it, I might go to Jazz at MOCA and perhaps finally go check out Sidewalk Bottle Shop. Maybe, we’ll see.
Things to do…
If you’re a theater lover, several theater companies around Miami have announced their upcoming seasons including GableStage, Actors’ Playhouse, Miami New Drama, Zoetic Stage, Lakehouseranch.png (experimental theater) and the Arsht Center Broadway in Miami series.
Tonight, go listen to music and view art either at Jazz at MOCA where you can visit the museum and enjoy their current exhibitions or during Viernes Culturales/Cultural Fridays in Little Havana.
