Christmas party, a play and my birthday

That headline pretty much sums up the highlights since last Friday. That and also watching the beginnings of a dance performance in development by Pioneer Winter Collective.

Ita, me, Michelle and Teri enjoying a little prosecco and cranberry and lots of yummy food!

Friday night was the annual Christmas cookies, apps and cocktails PJ party with my friends Michelle and Ita and my nephew’s wife Teri. We basically hung out in Michelle’s kitchen, and grazed on lots of goodies and enjoyed three delicious specialty cocktails. It was so much fun and I’m already looking forward to next year’s!

On Saturday night was when I went just 10 minutes from my house to Miami Theater Center in downtown Miami Shores to watch the dancers from Pioneer Winter Collective as they performed a new work they’re developing. I liked what I saw and am looking forward to seeing it performed on the stage.

Prosecco and chocolate mousse birthday cake at Cafe Avanti.

Sunday night, was really nice when we celebrated my birthday a day early with a lovely dinner at Cafe Avanti. I ordered the pesto gnocchi which was delicious. The glass of prosecco and creamy, dreamy chocolate mousse cake weren’t bad either.

Monday was my birthday and I chose to spend the afternoon attending Exchange for Change’s fall graduation at Everglades Correctional Institution where students from the creative writing program read their works. It was a humbling ceremony, my second time in attendance and I plan to be at more of these.

Gladys Rivera on the left in black pants and City Theatre’s Executive Director with Margaret Ledford, City Theatre’s Artistic Director introducing “La Gringa.” I loved that the audience was sitting in the round, it made for a much more intimate experience.

Another Playbill to add to the collection!

Then last night I saw a wonderful play “La Gringa” presented by City Theatre Miami at the Adrienne Arsht Center. My sister Susy and I braved the horrible weather to go see it and it was totally worth it. The production is a heartfelt, touching and very funny look at the immigrant experience and the feeling of not really belonging in any one country. If you can brave the weather I highly recommend seeing it. They’ve still got some tickets left for tonight’s performance but Sunday’s is sold out.

And today I spent the morning and afternoon participating in the Food Rescue US South FL food distribution event at Centro Mater in Little Havana. Our group of volunteers are simply the best!

That’s all for this week. Thanks for always reading and stay dry out there!
