Happy New Year…again

Happy New Year again!

Jesse Jones Jr. and his band performing at Jazz at MOCA last Friday.

After I wrote last week’s blog post I headed to Jazz at MOCA to listen to the very talented and entertaining jazz saxophonist Jesse Jones Jr. He was having a great time up on the stage with his band and the music transported me and had me swaying, toe tapping and clapping for the hour or so they performed. After, I went inside to see current exhibition “Por America” of works by Cuban artist Juan Francisco Elso. I loved his work and recommend checking out the exhibition. A photo I took of one of my favorite pieces in the show was actually featured in The New Tropic’s newsletter today! Click here for a link to the newsletter and to see the art.

Greek toast from Neverland Coffee Bar

On New Year’s Day Vance and I went for a long, long walk through Greynolds Park in North Miami Beach. We meandered through all their nature trails, enjoying the gorgeous weather. After we stopped at Neverland Coffee Bar for a quick snack. The place has some amazing sourdough bread and both Vance and I indulged in that deliciousness. He ordered the Greek toast, the sourdough topped with kefir, feta, arugula, zaatar, kalamata olives, red onions, cherry tomatoes and olive oil. I had mine super simple, butter and strawberry jelly. It was crispy, chewy and the perfect snack which we enjoyed while sitting on their lovely outdoor patio.

The guys shooting hoops at our house

Also this past week, Nick’s godfather Phil came by to visit and the two of them and Vance ended up playing a nice pick up basketball game. It was fun watching them get competitive, laugh and joke around.

And finally, I have to give a shout out to my niece Elena who wrote an amazing article about the Welte Philharmonic Pipe Organ at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. She wrote the very detailed, informative, historical piece while interning at Vizcaya. I was so proud as I read it but not at all surprised. She is an expert on all things Miami, her knowledge of the city’s history, cultural and otherwise, is impressive. Click here to read it.

As always, I have to share one final parting photo I took during a little break on my long, leisurely walk yesterday afternoon. This was taken at a lovely little triangular park at an intersection in Biscayne Park.

Finally, here’s a link to my article on Mary Benton and her Bound by Beauty Program that was published in this month’s Biscayne Times. I found Mary on Nextdoor Neighbor and was so fascinated by her I pitched the idea to my Editor and she gave me the green light! Super proud of this one, click on the link above to read it.

Until next week, I encourage you to visit the South Florida on the Cheap website for fun things to do and read through the articles and the blog on Artburst Miami for all the latest Miami arts news. And I can’t wait to share links to my upcoming articles, I’m working on three of them simultaneously which is a bit daunting but exciting nonetheless. Stay tuned!
